Leviticus 17
1The Lord spoke to Moses, saying,
2"Speak to Aaron, and to his sons, and to all the children of Israel, and say to them: 'This is the thing which the Lord has commanded,
3Whatever man there is of the house of Israel, who kills a bull, or lamb, or goat, in the camp, or who kills it outside the camp,
4and hasn't brought it to the door of the Tent of Meeting, [so as to sacrifice it for a burnt offering or peace offering to the Lord to be acceptable for a soothing aroma, and whoever shall kill it without, and shall not bring it to the door of the Tent of Meeting] to offer it as an offering to the Lord before the tabernacle of the Lord, blood shall be imputed to that man. He has shed blood; and that man shall be cut off from among his people.
5This is to the end that the children of Israel may bring their sacrifices, which they sacrifice in the open field, that they may bring them to the Lord, to the door of the Tent of Meeting, to the priest, and sacrifice them for sacrifices of peace offerings to the Lord.
6The priest shall sprinkle the blood on the altar of the Lord at the door of the Tent of Meeting, and burn the fat for a pleasant aroma to the Lord.
7They shall no more sacrifice their sacrifices to the goat idols, after which they play the prostitute. This shall be a statute forever to them throughout their generations.'
8"You shall say to them, 'Any man there is of the house of Israel, or of the strangers who live as foreigners among them, who offers a burnt offering or sacrifice,
9and doesn't bring it to the door of the Tent of Meeting, to sacrifice it to the Lord; that man shall be cut off from his people.
10"'Any man of the house of Israel, or of the strangers who live as foreigners among them, who eats any kind of blood, I will set my face against that soul who eats blood, and will cut him off from among his people.
11For the life of the flesh is in the blood; and I have given it to you on the altar to make atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that makes atonement by reason of the life.
12Therefore I have said to the children of Israel, "No person among you shall eat blood, neither shall any stranger who lives as a foreigner among you eat blood."
13"'Whatever man there is of the children of Israel, or of the strangers who live as foreigners among them, who takes in hunting any animal or bird that may be eaten; he shall pour out its blood, and cover it with dust.
14For as to the life of all flesh, its blood is with its life: therefore I said to the children of Israel, "You shall not eat the blood of any kind of flesh; for the life of all flesh is its blood. Whoever eats it shall be cut off."
15"'Every person that eats what dies of itself, or that which is torn by animals, whether he is native-born or a foreigner, he shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the evening: then he shall be clean.
16But if he doesn't wash them, or bathe his flesh, then he shall bear his iniquity.'"
Leviticus 18
1The Lord said to Moses,
2"Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them, 'I am the Lord your God.
3You shall not do as they do in the land of Egypt, where you lived: and you shall not do as they do in the land of Canaan, where I am bringing you; neither shall you walk in their statutes.
4You shall do my ordinances, and you shall keep my statutes, and walk in them: I am the Lord your God.
5You shall therefore keep my statutes and my ordinances; which if a man does, he shall live in them: I am the Lord.
6"'None of you shall approach anyone who are his close relatives, to uncover their nakedness: I am the Lord.
7"'You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father, nor the nakedness of your mother: she is your mother. You shall not uncover her nakedness.
8"'You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father's wife: it is your father's nakedness.
9"'You shall not uncover the nakedness of your sister, the daughter of your father, or the daughter of your mother, whether born at home, or born abroad.
10"'You shall not uncover the nakedness of your son's daughter, or of your daughter's daughter, even their nakedness: for theirs is your own nakedness.
11"'You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father's wife's daughter, conceived by your father, since she is your sister.
12"'You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father's sister: she is your father's near kinswoman.
13"'You shall not uncover the nakedness of your mother's sister: for she is your mother's near kinswoman.
14"'You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father's brother, you shall not approach his wife: she is your aunt.
15"'You shall not uncover the nakedness of your daughter-in-law: she is your son's wife. You shall not uncover her nakedness.
16"'You shall not uncover the nakedness of your brother's wife: it is your brother's nakedness.
17"'You shall not uncover the nakedness of a woman and her daughter. You shall not take her son's daughter, or her daughter's daughter, to uncover her nakedness; they are near kinswomen: it is wickedness.
18"'You shall not take a wife to her sister, to be a rival, to uncover her nakedness, while her sister is yet alive.
19"'You shall not approach a woman to uncover her nakedness, as long as she is impure by her uncleanness.
20"'You shall not lie carnally with your neighbor's wife, and defile yourself with her.
21"'You shall not give any of your children to sacrifice to Molech; neither shall you profane the name of your God: I am the Lord.
22"'You shall not lie with a man, as with a woman. That is detestable.
23"'You shall not lie with any animal to defile yourself with it; neither shall any woman give herself to an animal, to lie down with it: it is a perversion.
24"'Do not defile yourselves in any of these things: for in all these the nations which I am casting out before you were defiled.
25The land was defiled: therefore I punished its iniquity, and the land vomited out her inhabitants.
26You therefore shall keep my statutes and my ordinances, and shall not do any of these abominations; neither the native-born, nor the stranger who lives as a foreigner among you;
27(for all these abominations have the men of the land done, that were before you, and the land became defiled);
28that the land not vomit you out also, when you defile it, as it vomited out the nation that was before you.
29"'For whoever shall do any of these abominations, even the souls that do them shall be cut off from among their people.
30Therefore you shall keep my requirements, that you do not practice any of these abominable customs, which were practiced before you, and that you do not defile yourselves with them: I am the Lord your God.'"
Leviticus 19
1The Lord spoke to Moses, saying,
2"Speak to all the congregation of the children of Israel, and tell them, 'You shall be holy; for I the Lord your God am holy.
3"'Each one of you shall respect his mother and his father. You shall keep my Sabbaths. I am the Lord your God.
4"'Do not turn to idols, nor make molten gods for yourselves. I am the Lord your God.
5"'When you offer a sacrifice of peace offerings to the Lord, you shall offer it so that you may be accepted.
6It shall be eaten the same day you offer it, and on the next day: and if anything remains until the third day, it shall be burned with fire.
7If it is eaten at all on the third day, it is an abomination. It will not be accepted;
8but everyone who eats it shall bear his iniquity, because he has profaned the holy thing of the Lord, and that soul shall be cut off from his people.
9"'When you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not wholly reap the corners of your field, neither shall you gather the gleanings of your harvest.
10You shall not glean your vineyard, neither shall you gather the fallen grapes of your vineyard; you shall leave them for the poor and for the foreigner. I am the Lord your God.
11"'You shall not steal; neither shall you deal falsely, nor lie to one another.
12"'You shall not swear by my name falsely, and profane the name of your God. I am the Lord.
13"'You shall not oppress your neighbor, nor rob him. The wages of a hired servant shall not remain with you all night until the morning.
14"'You shall not curse the deaf, nor put a stumbling block before the blind; but you shall fear your God. I am the Lord.
15"'You shall do no injustice in judgment: you shall not be partial to the poor, nor show favoritism to the great; but you shall judge your neighbor in righteousness.
16"'You shall not go up and down as a slanderer among your people; neither shall you stand against the life of your neighbor. I am the Lord.
17"'You shall not hate your brother in your heart. You shall surely rebuke your neighbor, and not bear sin because of him.
18"'You shall not take vengeance, nor bear any grudge against the children of your people; but you shall love your neighbor as yourself. I am the Lord.
19"'You shall keep my statutes. "'You shall not crossbreed different kinds of animals. "'you shall not sow your field with two kinds of seed; "'neither shall there come upon you a garment made of two kinds of material.
20"'If a man lies carnally with a woman who is a slave girl, pledged to be married to another man, and not ransomed, or given her freedom; they shall be punished. They shall not be put to death, because she was not free.
21He shall bring his trespass offering to the Lord, to the door of the Tent of Meeting, even a ram for a trespass offering.
22The priest shall make atonement for him with the ram of the trespass offering before the Lord for his sin which he has committed: and the sin which he has committed shall be forgiven him.
23"'When you come into the land, and have planted all kinds of trees for food, then you shall count their fruit as forbidden. Three years shall they be forbidden to you. It shall not be eaten.
24But in the fourth year all its fruit shall be holy, for giving praise to the Lord.
25In the fifth year you shall eat its fruit, that it may yield its increase to you. I am the Lord your God.
26"'You shall not eat any meat with the blood still in it; neither shall you use enchantments, nor practice sorcery.
27"'You shall not cut the hair on the sides of your heads, neither shall you clip off the edge of your beard.
28"'You shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor tattoo any marks on you. I am the Lord.
29"'Do not profane your daughter, to make her a prostitute; lest the land fall to prostitution, and the land become full of wickedness.
30"'You shall keep my Sabbaths, and reverence my sanctuary; I am the Lord.
31"'Do not turn to those who are mediums, nor to the wizards. Do not seek them out, to be defiled by them. I am the Lord your God.
32"'You shall rise up before the gray head, and honor the face of an old man, and you shall fear your God. I am the Lord.
33"'If a stranger lives as a foreigner with you in your land, you shall not do him wrong.
34The stranger who lives as a foreigner with you shall be to you as the native-born among you, and you shall love him as yourself; for you lived as foreigners in the land of Egypt. I am the Lord your God.
35"'You shall do no unrighteousness in judgment, in measures of length, of weight, or of quantity.
36You shall have just balances, just weights, a just ephah, and a just hin. I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt.
37You shall observe all my statutes, and all my ordinances, and do them. I am the Lord.'"
Psalms 123
1To you I do lift up my eyes, you who sit in the heavens.
2Behold, as the eyes of servants look to the hand of their master, as the eyes of a maid to the hand of her mistress; so our eyes look to the Lord, our God, until he has mercy on us.
3Have mercy on us, Lord, have mercy on us, for we have endured much contempt.
4Our soul is exceedingly filled with the scoffing of those who are at ease, with the contempt of the proud.
Proverbs 30
1The words of Agur the son of Jakeh, the oracle: the man says to Ithiel, to Ithiel and Ucal:
2"Surely I am the most ignorant man, and do not have a man's understanding.
3I have not learned wisdom, neither do I have the knowledge of the Holy One.
4Who has ascended up into heaven, and descended? Who has gathered the wind in his fists? Who has bound the waters in his garment? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is his name, and what is his son's name, if you know?
5"Every word of God is flawless. He is a shield to those who take refuge in him.
6Do not add to his words, lest he reprove you, and you be found a liar.
7"Two things I have asked of you; do not deny me before I die:
8Remove far from me falsehood and lies. Give me neither poverty nor riches. Feed me with the food that is needful for me;
9lest I be full, deny you, and say, 'Who is the Lord?' or lest I be poor, and steal, and so dishonor the name of my God.
10"Do not slander a servant to his master, lest he curse you, and you be held guilty.
11There is a generation that curses their father, and doesn't bless their mother.
12There is a generation that is pure in their own eyes, yet are not washed from their filthiness.
13There is a generation, oh how lofty are their eyes! Their eyelids are lifted up.
14There is a generation whose teeth are like swords, and their jaws like knives, to devour the poor from the earth, and the needy from among men.
15"The leach has two daughters: 'Give, give.' "There are three things that are never satisfied; four that do not say, 'Enough:'
16Sheol, the barren womb; the earth that is not satisfied with water; and the fire that doesn't say, 'Enough.'
17"The eye that mocks at his father, and scorns obedience to his mother: the ravens of the valley shall pick it out, the young eagles shall eat it.
18"There are three things which are too amazing for me, four which I do not understand:
19The way of an eagle in the air; the way of a serpent on a rock; the way of a ship in the midst of the sea; and the way of a man with a maiden.
20"So is the way of an adulterous woman: she eats and wipes her mouth, and says, 'I have done nothing wrong.'
21"For three things the earth tremble, and under four, it can't bear up:
22For a servant when he is king; a fool when he is filled with food;
23for an unloved woman when she is married; and a handmaid who is heir to her mistress.
24"There are four things which are little on the earth, but they are exceedingly wise:
25the ants are not a strong people, yet they provide their food in the summer.
26The conies are but a feeble folk, yet make they their houses in the rocks.
27The locusts have no king, yet they advance in ranks.
28You can catch a lizard with your hands, yet it is in kings' palaces.
29"There are three things which are stately in their march, four which are stately in going:
30The lion, which is mightiest among animals, and doesn't turn away for any;
31the greyhound, the male goat also; and the king against whom there is no rising up.
32"If you have done foolishly in lifting up yourself, or if you have thought evil, put your hand over your mouth.
33For as the churning of milk brings forth butter, and the wringing of the nose brings forth blood; so the forcing of wrath brings forth strife."
