Leviticus 19

The Lord spoke to Moses, saying,

"Speak to all the congregation of the children of Israel, and tell them, 'You shall be holy; for I the Lord your God am holy.

"'Each one of you shall respect his mother and his father. You shall keep my Sabbaths. I am the Lord your God.

"'Do not turn to idols, nor make molten gods for yourselves. I am the Lord your God.

"'When you offer a sacrifice of peace offerings to the Lord, you shall offer it so that you may be accepted.

It shall be eaten the same day you offer it, and on the next day: and if anything remains until the third day, it shall be burned with fire.

If it is eaten at all on the third day, it is an abomination. It will not be accepted;

but everyone who eats it shall bear his iniquity, because he has profaned the holy thing of the Lord, and that soul shall be cut off from his people.

"'When you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not wholly reap the corners of your field, neither shall you gather the gleanings of your harvest.

You shall not glean your vineyard, neither shall you gather the fallen grapes of your vineyard; you shall leave them for the poor and for the foreigner. I am the Lord your God.

"'You shall not steal; neither shall you deal falsely, nor lie to one another.

"'You shall not swear by my name falsely, and profane the name of your God. I am the Lord.

"'You shall not oppress your neighbor, nor rob him. The wages of a hired servant shall not remain with you all night until the morning.

"'You shall not curse the deaf, nor put a stumbling block before the blind; but you shall fear your God. I am the Lord.

"'You shall do no injustice in judgment: you shall not be partial to the poor, nor show favoritism to the great; but you shall judge your neighbor in righteousness.

"'You shall not go up and down as a slanderer among your people; neither shall you stand against the life of your neighbor. I am the Lord.

"'You shall not hate your brother in your heart. You shall surely rebuke your neighbor, and not bear sin because of him.

"'You shall not take vengeance, nor bear any grudge against the children of your people; but you shall love your neighbor as yourself. I am the Lord.

"'You shall keep my statutes. "'You shall not crossbreed different kinds of animals. "'you shall not sow your field with two kinds of seed; "'neither shall there come upon you a garment made of two kinds of material.

"'If a man lies carnally with a woman who is a slave girl, pledged to be married to another man, and not ransomed, or given her freedom; they shall be punished. They shall not be put to death, because she was not free.

He shall bring his trespass offering to the Lord, to the door of the Tent of Meeting, even a ram for a trespass offering.

The priest shall make atonement for him with the ram of the trespass offering before the Lord for his sin which he has committed: and the sin which he has committed shall be forgiven him.

"'When you come into the land, and have planted all kinds of trees for food, then you shall count their fruit as forbidden. Three years shall they be forbidden to you. It shall not be eaten.

But in the fourth year all its fruit shall be holy, for giving praise to the Lord.

In the fifth year you shall eat its fruit, that it may yield its increase to you. I am the Lord your God.

"'You shall not eat any meat with the blood still in it; neither shall you use enchantments, nor practice sorcery.

"'You shall not cut the hair on the sides of your heads, neither shall you clip off the edge of your beard.

"'You shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor tattoo any marks on you. I am the Lord.

"'Do not profane your daughter, to make her a prostitute; lest the land fall to prostitution, and the land become full of wickedness.

"'You shall keep my Sabbaths, and reverence my sanctuary; I am the Lord.

"'Do not turn to those who are mediums, nor to the wizards. Do not seek them out, to be defiled by them. I am the Lord your God.

"'You shall rise up before the gray head, and honor the face of an old man, and you shall fear your God. I am the Lord.

"'If a stranger lives as a foreigner with you in your land, you shall not do him wrong.

The stranger who lives as a foreigner with you shall be to you as the native-born among you, and you shall love him as yourself; for you lived as foreigners in the land of Egypt. I am the Lord your God.

"'You shall do no unrighteousness in judgment, in measures of length, of weight, or of quantity.

You shall have just balances, just weights, a just ephah, and a just hin. I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt.

You shall observe all my statutes, and all my ordinances, and do them. I am the Lord.'"

Leviticus 20

The Lord spoke to Moses, saying,

"Moreover, you shall tell the children of Israel, 'Anyone of the children of Israel, or of the strangers who live as foreigners in Israel, who gives any of his seed to Molech; he shall surely be put to death. The people of the land shall stone him with stones.

I also will set my face against that person, and will cut him off from among his people because he has given of his seed to Molech, to defile my sanctuary, and to profane my holy name.

If the people of the land all hide their eyes from that person, when he gives of his seed to Molech, and do not put him to death;

then I will set my face against that man, and against his family, and will cut him off, and all who play the prostitute after him, to play the prostitute with Molech, from among their people.

"'The person that turns to those who are mediums, and to the wizards, to play the prostitute after them, I will even set my face against that person, and will cut him off from among his people.

"'Sanctify yourselves therefore, and be holy; for I am the Lord your God.

You shall keep my statutes, and do them. I am the Lord who sanctifies you.

"'For everyone who curses his father or his mother shall surely be put to death: he has cursed his father or his mother; his blood shall be upon him.

"'The man who commits adultery with another man's wife, even he who commits adultery with his neighbor's wife, the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death.

The man who lies with his father's wife has uncovered his father's nakedness: both of them shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.

"'If a man lies with his daughter-in-law, both of them shall surely be put to death: they have committed a perversion; their blood shall be upon them.

"'If a man lies with a male, as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.

"'If a man takes a wife and her mother, it is wickedness: they shall be burned with fire, both he and they; that there may be no wickedness among you.

"'If a man lies with an animal, he shall surely be put to death; and you shall kill the animal.

"'If a woman approaches any animal, and lies down with it, you shall kill the woman, and the animal: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.

"'If a man takes his sister, his father's daughter, or his mother's daughter, and sees her nakedness, and she sees his nakedness; it is a shameful thing; and they shall be cut off in the sight of the children of their people: he has uncovered his sister's nakedness; he shall bear his iniquity.

"'If a man lies with a woman having her monthly period, and uncovers her nakedness; he has made naked her fountain, and she has uncovered the fountain of her blood: and both of them shall be cut off from among their people.

"'You shall not uncover the nakedness of your mother's sister, nor of your father's sister; for he has made naked his close relative: they shall bear their iniquity.

If a man lies with his uncle's wife, he has uncovered his uncle's nakedness: they shall bear their sin; they shall die childless.

"'If a man takes his brother's wife, it is an impurity: he has uncovered his brother's nakedness; they shall be childless.

"'You shall therefore keep all my statutes, and all my ordinances, and do them; that the land, where I am bringing you to dwell, may not vomit you out.

You shall not walk in the customs of the nation, which I am casting out before you: for they did all these things, and therefore I abhorred them.

But I have said to you, "You shall inherit their land, and I will give it to you to possess it, a land flowing with milk and honey." I am the Lord your God, who has separated you from the peoples.

"'You shall therefore make a distinction between the clean animal and the unclean, and between the unclean fowl and the clean: and you shall not make yourselves abominable by animal, or by bird, or by anything with which the ground teems, which I have separated from you as unclean for you.

You shall be holy to me: for I, the Lord, am holy, and have set you apart from the peoples, that you should be mine.

"'A man or a woman that is a medium, or is a wizard, shall surely be put to death: they shall stone them with stones; their blood shall be upon them.'"

Psalms 55

Listen to my prayer, God. Do not hide yourself from my supplication.

Attend to me, and answer me. I am restless in my complaint, and moan,

Because of the voice of the enemy, Because of the oppression of the wicked. For they bring suffering on me. In anger they hold a grudge against me.

My heart is severely pained within me. The terrors of death have fallen on me.

Fearfulness and trembling have come on me. Horror has overwhelmed me.

I said, "Oh that I had wings like a dove! Then I would fly away, and be at rest.

Behold, then I would wander far off. I would lodge in the wilderness." Selah.

"I would hurry to a shelter from the stormy wind and storm."

Confuse them, Lord, and confound their language, for I have seen violence and strife in the city.

Day and night they prowl around on its walls. Malice and abuse are also within her.

Destructive forces are within her. Threats and lies do not depart from her streets.

For it was not an enemy who insulted me, then I could have endured it. Neither was it he who hated me who raised himself up against me, then I would have hid myself from him.

But it was you, a man like me, my companion, and my familiar friend.

We took sweet fellowship together. We walked in God's house with company.

Let death come suddenly on them. Let them go down alive into Sheol. For wickedness is in their dwelling, in the midst of them.

As for me, I will call on God. The Lord will save me.

Evening, morning, and at noon, I will cry out in distress. He will hear my voice.

He has redeemed my soul in peace from the battle that was against me, although there are many who oppose me.

God, who is enthroned forever, will hear, and answer them. Selah. They never change, who do not fear God.

He raises his hands against his friends. He has violated his covenant.

His mouth was smooth as butter, but his heart was war. His words were softer than oil, yet they were drawn swords.

Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you. He will never allow the righteous to be moved.

But you, God, will bring them down into the pit of destruction. Bloodthirsty and deceitful men shall not live out half their days, but I will trust in you.

Proverbs 24

Do not be envious of evil men; neither desire to be with them:

for their hearts plot violence, and their lips talk about mischief.

Through wisdom a house is built; by understanding it is established;

by knowledge the rooms are filled with all rare and beautiful treasure.

A wise man has great power; and a knowledgeable man increases strength;

for by wise guidance you wage your war; and victory is in many advisors.

Wisdom is too high for a fool: he doesn't open his mouth in the gate.

One who plots to do evil will be called a schemer.

The schemes of folly are sin. The mocker is detested by men.

If you falter in the time of trouble, your strength is small.

Rescue those who are being led away to death! Indeed, hold back those who are staggering to the slaughter!

If you say, "Behold, we did not know this;" doesn't he who weighs the hearts consider it? He who keeps your soul, doesn't he know it? Shall he not render to every man according to his work?

My son, eat honey, for it is good; the droppings of the honeycomb, which are sweet to your taste:

so you shall know wisdom to be to your soul; if you have found it, then there will be a reward, your hope will not be cut off.

Do not lie in wait, wicked man, against the habitation of the righteous. Do not destroy his resting place:

for a righteous man falls seven times, and rises up again; but the wicked are overthrown by calamity.

Do not rejoice when your enemy falls. Do not let your heart be glad when he is overthrown;

lest the Lord see it, and it displease him, and he turn away his wrath from him.

Do not fret yourself because of evildoers; neither be envious of the wicked:

for there will be no reward to the evil man; and the lamp of the wicked shall be snuffed out.

My son, fear the Lord and the king. Do not join those who are rebellious:

for their calamity will rise suddenly; the destruction from them both-who knows?

These also are sayings of the wise. To show partiality in judgment is not good.

He who says to the wicked, "You are righteous;" peoples shall curse him, and nations shall abhor him-

but it will go well with those who convict the guilty, and a rich blessing will come on them.

An honest answer is like a kiss on the lips.

Prepare your work outside, and get your fields ready. Afterwards, build your house.

Do not be a witness against your neighbor without cause. Do not deceive with your lips.

Do not say, "I will do to him as he has done to me; I will render to the man according to his work."

I went by the field of the sluggard, by the vineyard of the man void of understanding;

Behold, it was all grown over with thorns. Its surface was covered with nettles, and its stone wall was broken down.

Then I saw, and considered well. I saw, and received instruction:

a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep;

so your poverty will come as a robber, and your want as an armed man.
