2 Corinthians 12
1It is necessary to boast, though it is not profitable. But I will come to visions and revelations of the Lord.
2I know a man in Christ, fourteen years ago (whether in the body, I do not know, or whether out of the body, I do not know; God knows), such a one caught up into the third heaven.
3I know such a man (whether in the body, or apart from the body, I do not know; God knows),
4how he was caught up into Paradise, and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter.
5On behalf of such a one I will boast, but on my own behalf I will not boast, except in my weaknesses.
6For if I would desire to boast, I will not be foolish; for I will speak the truth. But I refrain, so that no man may think more of me than that which he sees in me, or hears from me.
7By reason of the exceeding greatness of the revelations, that I should not be exalted excessively, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to torment me, that I should not be exalted excessively.
8Concerning this thing, I begged the Lord three times that it might depart from me.
9He has said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness." Most gladly therefore I will rather glory in my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest on me.
10Therefore I take pleasure in weaknesses, in injuries, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ's sake. For when I am weak, then am I strong.
11I have become foolish. You compelled me, for I ought to have been commended by you, for in nothing was I inferior to the very best apostles, though I am nothing.
12Truly the signs of an apostle were worked among you in all patience, in signs and wonders and mighty works.
13For what is there in which you were made inferior to the rest of the churches, unless it is that I myself was not a burden to you? Forgive me this wrong.
14Behold, this is the third time I am ready to come to you, and I will not be a burden to you; for I seek not what is yours, but you. For the children ought not to save up for the parents, but the parents for the children.
15I will most gladly spend and be spent for your souls. If I love you more abundantly, am I loved the less?
16But be it so, I did not myself burden you. But, being crafty, I caught you with deception.
17Did I take advantage of you by anyone of them whom I have sent to you?
18I exhorted Titus, and I sent the brother with him. Did Titus take any advantage of you? Did not we walk in the same spirit? Did not we walk in the same steps?
19Have you been thinking all this time that we have been defending ourselves before you? In the sight of God we speak in Christ; and all things, beloved, are for your edifying.
20For I am afraid that by any means, when I come, I might find you not the way I want to, and that I might be found by you as you do not desire; that by any means there would be strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, factions, slander, whisperings, proud thoughts, riots;
21that again when I come my God would humble me before you, and I would mourn for many of those who have sinned before now, and not repented of the uncleanness and sexual immorality and lustfulness which they committed.
Psalms 94
1Lord, you God to whom vengeance belongs, you God to whom vengeance belongs, shine forth.
2Rise up, you judge of the earth. Pay back the proud what they deserve.
3Lord, how long will the wicked, how long will the wicked triumph?
4They pour out arrogant words. All the evildoers boast.
5They break your people in pieces, Lord, and afflict your heritage.
6They kill the widow and the alien, and murder the fatherless.
7They say, "Yah will not see, neither will Jacob's God consider."
8Consider, you senseless among the people; you fools, when will you be wise?
9He who implanted the ear, won't he hear? He who formed the eye, won't he see?
10He who disciplines the nations, won't he punish? He who teaches man knows.
11The Lord knows the thoughts of man, that they are futile.
12Blessed is the man whom you discipline, Yah, and teach out of your Law;
13that you may give him rest from the days of adversity, until the pit is dug for the wicked.
14For the Lord won't reject his people, neither will he forsake his inheritance.
15For judgment will return to righteousness. All the upright in heart shall follow it.
16Who will rise up for me against the wicked? Who will stand up for me against the evildoers?
17Unless the Lord had been my help, my soul would have soon lived in silence.
18When I said, "My foot is slipping!" Your loving kindness, Lord, held me up.
19In the multitude of my thoughts within me, your comforts delight my soul.
20Shall the throne of wickedness have fellowship with you, which brings about mischief by statute?
21They gather themselves together against the soul of the righteous, and condemn the innocent blood.
22But the Lord has been my high tower, my God, the rock of my refuge.
23He has brought on them their own iniquity, and will cut them off in their own wickedness. The Lord, our God, will cut them off.
Proverbs 17
1Better is a dry morsel with quietness, than a house full of feasting with strife.
2A servant who deals wisely will rule over a son who causes shame, and shall have a part in the inheritance among the brothers.
3The refining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold, but the Lord tests the hearts.
4An evildoer heeds wicked lips. A liar gives ear to a mischievous tongue.
5Whoever mocks the poor reproaches his Maker. He who is glad at calamity shall not be unpunished.
6Children's children are the crown of old men; the glory of children are their parents.
7Arrogant speech isn't fitting for a fool, much less do lying lips fit a prince.
8A bribe is a precious stone in the eyes of him who gives it; wherever he turns, he prospers.
9He who covers an offense promotes love; but he who repeats a matter separates best friends.
10A rebuke enters deeper into one who has understanding than a hundred lashes into a fool.
11An evil man seeks only rebellion; therefore a cruel messenger shall be sent against him.
12Let a bear robbed of her cubs meet a man, rather than a fool in his folly.
13Whoever rewards evil for good, evil shall not depart from his house.
14The beginning of strife is like breaching a dam, therefore stop contention before quarreling breaks out.
15He who justifies the wicked, and he who condemns the righteous, both of them alike are an abomination to the Lord.
16Why is there money in the hand of a fool to buy wisdom, seeing he has no understanding?
17A friend loves at all times; and a brother is born for adversity.
18A man void of understanding strikes hands, and becomes collateral in the presence of his neighbor.
19He who loves disobedience loves strife. One who builds a high gate seeks destruction.
20One who has a perverse heart doesn't find prosperity, and one who has a deceitful tongue falls into trouble.
21He who becomes the father of a fool grieves. The father of a fool has no joy.
22A cheerful heart makes good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.
23A wicked man receives a bribe in secret, to pervert the ways of justice.
24Wisdom is before the face of one who has understanding, but the eyes of a fool wander to the ends of the earth.
25A foolish son brings grief to his father, and bitterness to her who bore him.
26Also to punish the righteous is not good, nor to flog officials for their integrity.
27He who spares his words has knowledge. He who is even tempered is a man of understanding.
28Even a fool, when he keeps silent, is counted wise. When he shuts his lips, he is thought to be discerning.
